NEED TO KNOW

  • All the rooms are air conditioned and overlook either the courtyard/garden or the picturesque streets of Oaxaca
  • Camino Real Oaxaca is located in the historic center of Oaxaca, just moments from the main square (zocalo)
  • The restaurant serves classic continental cuisine and Oaxacan specialties, including traditional 'moles' and the local mescal
  • An outdoor heated swimming pool is set in an orchard surrounded by original colonial archways and portals - home to the charming bar, Las Novicias
  • Other facilities include the Las Bugambilias bar, a shop and news stand, extensive gardens and patios - as well as the opportunity to explore the historic convent

THE HOTEL
The five-star Camino Real Oaxaca is unique in México thanks to its fabulous, historic location.  The hotel is housed in the former Convent of Santa Catalina, which, built in 1576, is a grand colonial property now meticulously restored.  Its Spanish Baroque architecture and authentic colonial touches have been retained, giving an atmospheric flavour of Oaxaca's past.

Original features abound.  Long tiled corridors are adorned with fading original frescoes, whilst sun-washed courtyards and flower filled patios and gardens are bordered by wonderful colonial archways and portals.

The rooms are large with wooden beam and terracotta tile ceilings, stucco walls, restored original floor tiles and queen or double beds.  All are tastefully decorated with native weavings and Oaxacan crafts, whilst the modern bathrooms are decorated with beautiful Mexican tiles.

Guest Testimonial

Once again we have thoroughly enjoyed our holiday with A&K. There was a fascinating mix of location and camp styles and the particular sequence worked very well for us.
