Kunene is an area where the mountains of metamorphic rock are cut through by rivers. The Kunene River is the border between Namibia and Angola. In this isolated region, the Himba people continue their nomadic, traditional way of life. Game viewing in this area is limited to herds of gemsbok, springbok and Hartmann's mountain zebra. The Kunene River has a large population of Nile crocodiles, an anomaly in a desert. This is an area of outstanding natural beauty with the contrast of the stark rock mountains against the soft yellow sand dunes.
A stay at Serra Cafema is the ultimate place to appreciate the vastness of this remote area only inhabited by the nomadic Himba people.
