Why we like it

  • A country estate located on a 5,000 acre working farm
  • Plenty of activities in the surrounding countryside
  • Exclusive retreat with the utmost privacy
  • Delicious gourmet cooking
  • Local and European wines available

A&K Top Tip

Relax and revel in the splendour of the surroundings while the chefs thrill you with a gourmet three course lunch, or four course dinner - the most taxing thing you will have to do is select something from the award winning wine list.

Guest Testimonial

First experience with A&K. Intended to ask various travel companies for quotes but Vicky (Hamlin) was so good with her suggestions that we did not seek alternative quotations the suggested itinerary was excellent and helped us decide on a balanced and interesting holiday.

Wharekauhau Country Estate, located in Martinborough in the North Island of New Zealand, is a luxury lodge with award winning style that is recognised as one of the world's most exclusive retreats. A country estate located on a 5000 acre working farm, accommodation is provided in self-contained cottages or Estate Houses with stunning ocean views that are dotted around the estate ensuring complete privacy and spectacular views.

Each cottage or house is within easy walking distance of the main lodge, the heart of Wharekauhau. There are plenty of activities available both on-site and in the surrounding countryside. Guests can choose to take a hiking trail through Wharekauhau's 5000 acres, encompassing native forest, idyllic lakes and rivers, farm land, and the breathtaking South Wairarapa coast, or for those seeking an adrenalin rush, four wheel drive safaris, horse trekking and trap shooting on Wharekauhau's private clay field are available.
