Head off for your Amazon adventure flying to Puerto Maldonado in the South East of the country. This once booming rubber town is surrounded by some of the world's most pristine rainforests. This is an adventure from the start. There are no roads to your jungle hideaway, just the rushing Madre de Dios river, so hop on a boat and be transported both metaphorically and literally to a land of riotous colour, jungle song and extraordinary wildlife. Take a wide-eyed afternoon walk and be guided along the thrillingly high canopy walkways –hanging bridges and treetop observation platforms a-plenty this is the perfect spot to view the Amazon's rare treats of nature, impossible to spot from the ground. Return to your lantern lit cabana for perhaps a lazy swing in your porch-hammock before drifting off to the jungle lullaby snug in your canopied bed.

Great bird and reptile spotting territory. This afternoon drop back a pace and take a tranquil boat trip to Lake Sandoval, where you will have the chance to get up close and personal to those charming giant otters, not so charming piranhas and some jewel hued parrots.
