Day 1 - London/Nairobi/Kigali
Fly from London Heathrow this morning to Kigali via Nairobi.
Day 2 - Kigali
On arrival in Kigali this morning you will be met and driven to Kigali Serena Hotel.
Day 3 - Kigali/Butare/Nyungwe Forest
This morning depart Kigali for Nyungwe Forest (approximately 6 hours). En route, visit Nyanza Royal Palace, once the former home of the King of Rwanda, and the adjacent reconstructed traditional palace made of reeds. Butare, Rwanda's university town, is home to the National Museum, which showcases Rwandan life throughout the centuries. Collections contain items inherited from the ancient museum of Rwanda and other artefacts collected since 1990. Stay at the luxurious Nyungwe Forest Lodge, set in an expansive tea plantation on the edge of the Nyungwe Forest.
Day 4 - Nyungwe Forest
A morning excursion takes you into the heart of Nyungwe Forest in search of colobus monkeys with an expert guide and tracker. The trekking can be tough, often involving travelling through the thick forest up and down very steep slopes. This afternoon, tour the Gisakura Tea Plantation for an insight into Rwanda's large tea exporting business.
Day 5 - Nyungwe Forest/Gisenyi
Continue on to Gisenyi (approximately 7 hours), where you will stay at the Lake Kivu Serena Hotel on the shores of the lake. The hotel overlooks its own private beach and offers many activities such as boating, swimming, tennis and fishing.
Day 6 - Gisenyi/Kinigi
A drive of around one hour will take you to Kinigi. In the foothills of the mighty Virungas volcanoes, Sabinyo Silverback Lodge has fantastic views and is only minutes away from the Volcanoes National Park, where you can take thrilling treks on foot to see Mountain Gorilla.
Day 7 - Kinigi
Forming part of the Virunga Mountain Range, the Volcanoes National Park is home to half of the remaining 780 mountain gorillas in the area. Led by experienced trackers, make your way this morning through the forest in search of one of the 8 habituated gorilla families of this region. Trekking can take anything between one and four hours and a maximum of one hour is spent with the gorillas.
Day 8 - Kinigi/Kigali
After another thrilling morning spent tracking the magnificent Mountain Gorilla, transfer this afternoon to Kigali (approximately 2 hours) and spend your final night relaxing at the Kigali Serena Hotel. Day 9 Kigali Transfer to Kigali Airport this afternoon for your departure flight to London Heathrow via Nairobi, arriving early the following morning.
