NEED TO KNOW

  • Stroll up the Babylonstoren koppie (small hill) - the views of fynbos vegetation are worth the effort
  • Cycle through the vineyards and orchards or amble down the spruit which is lined with 7000 clivias
  • Enjoy eating at Babel, the farm restaurant. Everything is fresh and comes from either Babylonstoren or neighbouring farms
  • Work out in the gym or enjoy a relaxing spa which offers sauna, steam baths and an indoor plunge pool. There is also a swimming pool for hot summer days
THE HOTEL
Babylonstoren is one of the best preserved werfs (farm yards) in the Cape Dutch tradition. Babylonstoren lies in the Drakenstein Valley between Franschhoek and Paarl. Surrounded by the Simonsberg, Du Toitsklooff and Franschhoek Mountains. Babylonstoren is in the heart of the Cape Winelands, It is some 60 km from the city of Cape Town and an easy 45 minute drive from Cape Town International Airport.

The fourteen cottages strung out along the garden and vineyards offer the functional simplicity of farm structures combined with considerable style. The style was developed in the Cape Colony of the 17th and 18th century where outer walls are whitewashed and decorated with ornate gables and thatched roofs. Interiors are pleasantly cool in summer (due to thick walls) and are heated by open hearths in winter.

We recommendGuests are invited to join in the harvesting, pruning, planting or picking of the many fruit, herbs, nuts, spices and vegetables of this unique eight acre vegetable and fruit garden.
