Vivanta by Taj-Bentota
Why we like it
- Located on one of Sri Lanka's finest beaches along the southwest coast
- The ideal place to unwind after a touring holiday
- Stunning views over the Indian Ocean
- Set within lush gardens
- Nearby lagoon offers a range of watersports
The Oriental Pavilion is the only authentic Chinese restaurant in Bentota, and is well worth a visit
The Abercrombie & Kent team in Sri Lanka was most impressive. It was a pleasure to be met on arrival by your representative and at the end of our trip to be guided by him through the formalities of departure.

Conveniently located just 60km from Colombo, Vivanta by Taj-Bentota boasts one of the best beaches in the Indian Ocean, with the cluster of 160 rooms trickling down a gentle slope through the gardens to the sea. Each of the rooms overlooks either the lush gardens or the ocean, their colonial architecture of whitewashed walls and ochre ceiling tiles complemented by modern in-room conveniences. All rooms are decorated in soothing tones, while the Presidential Suite has a relaxing Jacuzzi bath for the ultimate in chilling out.
Taj-Bentota has many drinking and dining options: sip a cocktail at Tease, try fresh seafood at S.H.A.C.K overlooking the Indian Ocean or sample traditional Chinese dishes at the Oriental Pavilion before heading to the 'My Kind of Place' nightclub when darkness falls. The Jiva Spa is the place to unwind, where you can try the traditional Vishuddi therapy where Vedic verses are chanted as your mind and body are cleansed. For the active, there's a fitness centre, volleyball, water polo, badminton and cricket.
Best time to be there
During our winter months, when the humidity is lower and the temperature more comfortable for sightseeing and exploration. However, the monsoon season of May to September should not be discounted for travel as the whole of Sri Lanka is bursting into lush greenery due to the rainfall showing you a side of this island not everyone sees.
