HIGHLIGHTS

  • Take a thrilling walking safari in wildlife-packed South Luangwa National Park
  • Canoe the Zambezi River, keeping a lookout for hippos and elephants
  • Stay in riverside treehouses and luxury bush camps

Day 1 UK / Lusaka
Maximise your time by flying overnight to Lusaka (via Johannesburg or Dubai), then board a connecting flight to the Lower Zambezi.

Days 2 - 4 Lower Zambezi
The Lower Zambezi, a short plane-hop away, is Zambia’s water wonderland. Here, Baines’ River Camp will be your home for the next three nights. Wildlife opportunities here are excellent with elephants and hippos in particular are abundant. Discover the wilds of the Lower Zambezi by foot or open 4X4 with expert guides or get to the heart of the Zambezi by paddling its waters: canoe safaris truly bring the river to life.
Baines’ River Camp | Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

Days 5 – 8 Luangwa Valley
Few places in Africa are as wildlife-dense as the Luangwa Valley. The waterways, plains and mopane woodlands are packed with game – including healthy numbers of hippos and leopards – and around 400 species of birds. The luxury-tented Sanctuary Puku Ridge Camp, perched on an escarpment in the remotest reaches of South Luangwa National Park, offers excellent game drives (day and night) as well as guided on foot expeditions. Walking safaris were first pioneered in this valley, and offer the most spine-tingling encounters.

Days 8 - 10 Livingstone

End with a bang, not a whimper: Victoria Falls is twice the height of Niagara, and the ultimate expression of nature’s raw power. Sanctuary Sussi & Chuma Lodge, a cluster of tree-houses on a bend of the Zambezi, just 12km upstream from Victoria Falls, is a fairytale-like base. Each room has a private deck looking out over the river and bush, where hippo might be seen at any time. Livingstone has become a real adventure hub, and options an numerous. Adrenalin junkies can bungee from the Zimbabwe-Zambia border bridge, raft the rapids, rope-swing across the gorge or soar over it in a microlight. For something a little more sedate, cruise the Zambezi at sunset, cocktail in hand.

Fly from Livingstone to Johannesburg for your overnight flight back to the UK.
