Touch down in Alaska’s largest city and you will be driven 45-minutes into the surrounding forest where your chateau-style hotel awaits. Bed down as you cosy up in the wilderness.
Hit the slopes for some world-class skiing. If there’s one place to heli-ski, it’s here but also short lift lines mean it’s never been easier to access untracked powder-white terrain. Adrenaline-seekers can take on the steep and deep with a volume of snow that gathers up to 1600cm a year as well as near-vertical slopes. The mountains are vast enough to offer diverse runs for all ages and abilities. Not to mention the spellbinding vistas.
Head east for a heli-tour of the Chugach Mountains and its surreal glaciers. Soar over ancient shards of bright-white ice and get close to sculpture-like jagged blue valleys. You then have the rare chance to land on a frozen glacier and take a walk on its colossal ancient ice. After ample photo opportunities, zip back to your hotel. Should you wish to hit the slopes again, we recommend waiting for sunset and, when the crowds disperse, you can enjoy a thrilling night ski.
This morning, take a floatplane to the western edges of the Alaska Range. Touch down on a 2-mile lake and walk up to your log cabin, your home for the next three nights. Slip into the hot tub and look out towards the blue water and the rugged Tordrillo Mountains.
Spend the day venturing through remote wilderness, trailblazing through the backcountry. Why not try a spot of snowshoeing or slice through the powder snowmobiling along the numerous trails surrounding your lodge. Perhaps you’ll spend the day on a hiking expedition with a picnic lunch and panoramic pine views or take a fun cooking class in an old crabbing boat preparing rockfish fritters and harvesting local oysters. Don’t miss wine and cheese tastings with remarkable regional tipple.
Meet your guide on the historic Iditarod trail, famed for its dog sled race; 1,000 miles across Alaskan wilderness, two mountain ranges and ice-filled Norton Sound. You’ll be introduced to a pack of 20 Alaskan huskies, each with their own personalities. An expert dog musher will give you a ‘mushing’ tutorial, so you can get to grips with the commands and sledding techniques before you set off on vast snowy tracts. Your instructor will take the reins should you wish to soak up the views from the sleigh.
It’s an early breakfast before your floatplane trip back to Anchorage and your onward flight to Honolulu where, upon landing, you’ll be driven along the palm-fringed western coast to your hotel. Unpack the sandals and pad down to the pool.
Unwind in your resort in this coveted spot where you can doze in the sun, swim in the aquamarine waters or book a massage on the beach. Feeling adventurous? Why not hike to remote waterfalls or paddle out into the Pacific on an outrigger canoe. If you can tear yourself away from the resort, take a day trip to Honolulu for lunch in one of the creative eateries and a browse in the design shops.
After breakfast, a transfer will take you to the airport for a short hop over to the Big Island. On arrival, you will be met and driven to your hotel on the Kohala Coast. Stroll down to the white sand beach for a sundowner and enjoy beach side dining. You’re also only a shuttle ride away from the local upscale restaurants.
Begin your day with a helicopter flight over Volcanoes National Park, Hawaii’s natural spectacle. You’ll take in bird’s eye views over a handful of smouldering volcanoes including the Kilauea Caldera, the world’s most active volano, spewing molten lava straight into the ocean. Land in the fern-filled park where you’ll hike through lava tubes and rugged terrain. Then amble along the black sand beach, lined with rainforest, for classic Hawaii scenery.
You may grimace rising at the crack of dawn but the early morning wake-up call is worth it. Steal out before the sunrise, up to Mauna Kea, Hawaii’s most sacred mountain. At the summit, you can watch the amber sun slowly bathe the land as your guide regales tales of Polynesian gods. You then have the rest of the day to relax. In the evening, grab some goggles and head north by boat to swim with silky manta rays that feed on the reef – an unforgettable experience.
Today you will be collected from your hotel and driven to the airport from where you will depart.
