Why we like it

  • With just 38 villas, the island offers families and couples alike a true desert island escape
  • The island’s position in the remote southern Gaafu Alifu atoll means that the surrounding waters and house reefs are home to an abundance of marine life
  • A Marine Butler is available to every guest
  • Raffles’ signature cocktail has been re-created in island style at the Long Bar; the ‘Maldivian Sling’ – made with gin, cinnamon, clove and coconut – is a variation on the original Singapore Sling famously created at Raffles Singapore
  • Our top tip: keep an eye out for Apollo, one of 15 resident hawksbill turtles, or hop aboard one of the regular green turtle-watching expeditions

“Raffles Hotel stands for all the fables of the exotic East”, Somerset Maugham once wrote. Singapore’s grande dame exemplifies old-world splendour. So how does that colonial-era opulence survive a trip of some 3,450 kilometres to the very south of the Maldives? It turns out that it travels beautifully.

Raffles Maldives Meradhoo stands for all the fables of a perfect paradise. Located in the gorgeous Gaafu Alifu Atoll, the main island is home to 22 villas, including Two Bedroom Residences, Beach Villas and the Raffles Royal Residence.

In addition to the accommodation, the main island also houses the overwater Raffles Spa, a large freeform pool and a soft white sand beach where guests find restaurants Thari and The Firepit, the island interpretation of the legendary Long Bar (where the famed Singapore Sling was first slung in 1915).

On Overwater Island, there are 16 villas, some facing east to greet the rising sun and others facing west to capture the magnificence of the Maldivian sunset. Peruvian-Japanese fusion restaurant Yuzu, and adjacent bar Yapa, can also be found here. Imagine creative ceviche dishes made from sustainably line-caught ingredients, fished in a way that doesn’t impact the biosphere.

Influenced by Feng Shui, the overwater wellness sanctuary is a serene space. The spa pays tribute to the therapeutic power of nature. There’s also a fitness centre, padel tennis court, multi-purpose ground, yoga, and kids’ centre with a kids' butler and scheduled activities.
