Embark on a family adventure to “deepest darkest Peru” a country of mighty empires, towering mountain ranges and rolling Pacific coastline. During this 11-day itinerary, we will bring the history and culture of this South American country to life. Travel in the observatory car for a scenic train ride from the Sacred Valley to Machu Picchu. Explore this spectacular ancient city built by the Incan civilisation and lost to the world for centuries. Join our expert guide – escorted by llamas and alpacas – for a hike along the ancestral routes of the Andes. Enjoy a family bike tour of Lima’s archaeological gems from the heart of Miraflores to pyramid shaped Huaca and learn to surf. Round off your trip with a stroll through the art galleries of the San Blas Neighbourhood.

UK - Lima

Following your overnight flight from London to the Peruvian capital Lima you’ll be met by a member of our team and transferred to your luxury hotel the contemporary AC Hotel Lima Miraflores. Enjoy your first glimpse of the city which is renowned for its rich culture and cuisine. On arrival relax in your suite and enjoy unparalleled ocean views.

Lima

This morning, set out on The Graffiti Route recognised as one of the five most important in Latin America. You will see more than 60 murals and the visit Unfinished Museum of Urban Art. After lunch, enjoy a 12-kilometre family cycle tour from Miraflores to Barranco with your guide. En route, enjoy views of the bay of Lima and Parque del Amor and stop at the Puente de los Suspiros.

Lima

After a breakfast, learn to surf on the beach of Miraflores. This is the perfect place in Lima as the Pacific waves allow beginners to learn and more expert surfers to refine their skills. Enjoy the rest of the day at leisure; where you can relax in your luxury suite or stroll down to Larcomar, an upscale shopping centre, Kennedy Park. Enjoy dinner at Insumo Rooftop, which has the best ocean views in Lima.

Lima – Sacred Valley

Today, fly to Cuzco. You will be privately transferred to a centre where South American camelids (llamas, alpacas, and vicuñas) are bred. Learn about the valuable fibres created from their coats and the ancient weaving techniques still used today. This afternoon, head to your hotel in the heart of the Sacred Valley and relax on your balcony taking in the views the Vilcanota River and the Andes beyond.

Sacred Valley

Today, join our exert guide escorted by llamas and alpacas for a hike along the ancestral routes of the Andes. Start along the shores of Piuray lagoon and follow ancient trails to the the Sacred Valley of the Incas. A delicious outdoor lunch will be served with a stunning background of mountains and glaciers. The final part of the day will be exploring the quaint alleyways of the town in Chinchero.

Sacred Valley

Today ride a mountain bike along the beginners' route (26km) which crosses flat terrain of this amazing scenery. Immerse yourself in everyday life of the valley; encounter villagers working in the fields. Hop off at the Yucay town that offers an impression of ancient Incan terraces and ruins of fine masonry of the period. Visit agricultural towns, where many cultural traditions are still alive today. Visit the Foundation Niños del Arco Iris, an A&K Philanthropy project and interact with the children.

Sacred Valley - Machu Picchu

Today, make the scenic train journey to Machu Picchu, the Lost City of the Incas. Each of the cars features panoramic windows providing a majestic view on these tropical foothills of the Andes. On arrival and accompanied by your guide, explore the city's ruins, and feel its pulse as you visualise the lives of the priests, crafts people, and servants who inhabited this seemingly uninhabitable citadel. Excavations at the site have revealed skeletons, artefacts, and woollen clothing, but no gold.

Machu Picchu - Cusco

After a leisurely breakfast you can board the PeruRail Vistadome for the journey to Cusco. While the view from the observatory car is the highlight of your ride, there are often fashion shows in your carriage featuring designs created from alpaca wool. You will be met by your driver and transferred by private vehicle to your luxury hotel within the heart of historic Cusco.

Today, enjoy a day soaking up the luxury of your hotel which is considered a historic landmark. Why not join a Pisco masterclass and learn more about Peru’s national drink or take part in a ceramic painting lesson. Unwind at the Andes Spirit Spa and try one of the signature treatments and take a dip in the indoor therapy pool. End the day in style dining alfresco on the illuminated patio where you can choose from a menu of traditional Peruvian cuisine.

Cusco

Today, visit the district of San Blas Neighbourhood, perched on a hill just beyond the Cusco Cathedral, known for its colonial architecture and cobbled streets. It is home to famous artists and art galleries and is one of the best places to pick up a souvenir. While San Blas has become Cusco’s trendiest neighbourhood, a sense of history trickles through in the shape of the Sapantiana Aqueduct. You could also visit the Mendivil workshop and the Olave Family Workshop.

Cusco – Lima – UK

Following a leisurely breakfast, start to pack away your souvenirs and take those final selfies of your time in Peru. You will be driven to Cusco airport for your domestic flight to Lima and back to the UK.
