Belize with A&K

Our experts will always go that little bit further for you. Recently returned guests recounted a frustrating morning in the Belizean jungle, constantly hearing the distinctive croak of the keel-billed toucan, without catching the slightest trace of the bird. As the day ended at their eco lodge, the call rang out again.

The departing guide turned, beckoned them to follow and plunged back into the rainforest, heading through the foliage for several minutes before stopping. 'He pointed up into the canopy where we saw the brilliant creature with its green and scarlet beak, and yellow chest. How amazing.'

That specialist knowledge and dedication to explain the wonders of their country typifies the highly qualified guides we use in Belize. Add in the best 4WD vehicles - you'll thank us on wilder roads - and well-established contacts, and we can arrange seamless travel through the small but intoxicating country, and its Central American neighbours.

Luridly photogenic toucans are only the start of Belize's wildlife. You've told us about monkeys, foxes and snakes, along with manatees, sharks, stingrays and blizzards of tropical fish. 'I'll forever remember standing in warm water with a dolphin,' wrote one guest. 'It paused long enough for me to feel its heartbeat.'

Take and Abercrombie & Kent luxury Belize holiday and the coast, with its prolific marine life, is an absolute showstopper. With the world's second longest coral reef and cayes (low sandy islands) offering the dazzling trinity of blue sky, translucent tropical waters - you can see up to 60m - and bleached white sand, it's heaven-sent for snorkelling, diving and fishing.

But we'll also take you inland to the Mountain Pine Ridge Reserve, and into the lush rainforests covering half the country. A boat trip along their tangle of lakes and rivers reveals astonishing bird life - you may even spot the keel-billed toucan.

And then there's the culture. A  2014 A&K tour would also reveal Mayan ruins including Xunantunich, Altun Ha and Caracol, and burial caves at Actun Tunichil Muknal, 'They're as beautiful as any of Mexico's Mayan sites,' one guest told us. 'But there's no one else there.' Belize: it might be small, but it offers an awful lot - except crowds.
