Embark on the ultimate round-the-world trip with A&K

To mark six decades at the forefront of luxury travel, A&K has designed a globe-spanning adventure to top all others – and you can be on it

Reading time: 5 minutes

It all started with a simple ethos: adventure by day, luxury by night.

When the Kent family founded A&K in 1962, ‘luxury’ was keeping food fresh on safari. As Geoffrey Kent says: “I knew that the secret to making someone feel at home in the middle of nowhere was a hot dinner and a cold drink.” So, he introduced refrigerated safari trucks. This was the first in a six-decade-long line of innovations that has pushed A&K to the forefront of luxury travel.

Today, as we mark our 60th anniversary, A&K is a very different animal, with operations across more than one hundred countries on all seven continents. Yet, that central ethos remains true: adventure by day, luxury by night. It’s at the heart of a very special itinerary we’ve designed to celebrate six decades of taking clients around the world.

Our new ‘Greatest of All Trips’ itinerary features iconic experiences in 13 countries, on all seven continents. This unparalleled, globe-spanning journey visits UNESCO World Heritage sites, rare wildlife habitats, vibrant cities and remote communities – and you’re invited. Here is what’s in store…

East Africa:

Mountain gorillas & the Great Migration

The adventure begins where A&K started in 1962, on an East African safari. This region is home to one of the wonders of the natural world – the Great Migration. More than a million wildebeest – along with gazelle and zebra – stampede Lion King-style, following the rains between the Serengeti and the Masai Mara. It’s the largest migration on Earth.

East Africa is also home to the last of the mountain gorillas. A&K was founded on a belief in sustainable, nature-based tourism, and pioneered gorilla tracking in Uganda. “I worked with the president to set aside Bwindi Impenetrable Forest, now home to half of the world’s surviving mountain gorillas. Today, the sale of gorilla tracking permits contributes more than US$1 million to the local economy. At the same time, we have not forgotten the human population. Through Abercrombie & Kent Philanthropy (AKP), we’ve built a hospital that has helped to reduce infant mortality by more than 50 per cent,” explains Kent.

Egypt:

A journey back in time

Next it’s onwards to Egypt, A&K’s first destination outside sub-Saharan Africa. “Egypt is a place everyone must experience at least once in their lives,” says Kent. “Sailing on the Nile is like a trip back in time.” To guarantee the quality of the experience, A&K built the first ‘Sun Boat’. Today, its award-winning Sanctuary Nile River cruisers offer privileged access to the country’s most famous sites, accompanied by the region’s best Egyptologists – as you’ll find out for yourself.
