Complimented with an extensive indigenous population, descendants of the Maya still maintain close ties to their religion and customs. With a landscape that ranges from misty mountains to pine covered hills and dense jungle, Chiapas has an ideal climate for coffee, tropical fruits, and rich biodiversity. The howler monkeys, jaguars and numerous avian species all occupy your senses when you descend into the lush valleys or climb to the tops of the mountainous peaks.
Please note that as is common in Chiapas service and accommodation levels can be more basic than other areas of Mexico. The area is also mountainous and can be cold at night.
Palenque
Defined as one of the most important cities of the storied Maya; Palenque offers a glimpse into the ancient worlds of times past, creating a sense of transportation to an era lost among the towering Ceiba trees and mythic gods of the Maya.
San Cristóbal de Las Casas
A favorite town amongst Mexicans, San Cristóbal is laden with cobblestone streets, quaint cafes, and lively markets. Found in the temperate Valle de Jovel, pine tree forests envelope this colonial town that houses numerous indigenous communities and budding artists' communities.
Sumidero Canyon
This marvelous canyon was intensified in 1981 when a hydroelectric damn lowered the waters and deepened the canyon. Often seen by boat, the innumerable waterfalls and sheer cliff walls leave a breathtaking response on all those who view this natural wonder!
Tuxtla Gutierrez
The gateway city into Chiapas, Tuxtla provides a convenient location to begin or end an adventure in Mexico. Located in the Southeast region of the country, it is a bustling commercial hub with wonderful restaurants and an exciting nightlife.

Guest Testimonial
We appreciated knowing the travel specialist (Katie Sims) from the previous A&K holiday. The hotels in Grenada and Cordoba were excellent.
The Renfe trains from Grenada to Malaga were very impressive. On time, comfortable and fast. ![]()
