Lake Manyara tours: where flamingo line the banks and lion climb the trees

Tours of Lake Manyara National Park take you on a horseshoe-shaped driving route through five different vegetation zones. Perfectly placed between the Ngorongoro and the Serengeti, Lake Manyara itself takes up much of the park. This is great news for you, as it means that the small strips of woodland, hemmed in by the river and the Great Rift escarpment, helps to herd the animals together as they arrive to graze.

The alkaline soda water of the lake acts like a magnet ensuring that your Lake Manyara tour offers plenty of opportunities to see much diverse wildlife. It’s ideal for bird-watchers, thanks to the forests that line its banks, alongside elephant and flamingo. The forests also attract the park’s famous tree-climbing lions. These are far from a guaranteed spot but our expert guides have developed an excellent track record in recent years, and it is truly a sight to behold.

If you travel further south to the Msasa River, you’ll see volcanic rock give way to ancient crystalline rock, creating waterfalls that run down the Rift Valley escarpment. And where there’s running water, the game animals are never too far away.
