Being the second largest park in Tanzania it is surprising that it is also one the counties lesser know parks. The vastness and remoteness of this amazing area is what makes Ruaha National Park so special.
The parks life blood is the Ruaha River which it a massive flood of water during the rainy season and then during the drier, harsher months it is nothing but a trickle with a few pools which are home to hippos. The game viewing is excellent and includes huge herds of elephants - some herds being the largest in East Africa. The park is also home to some lesser know or seen animals like the Roan and Sable antelope who in enjoy the more dry, open woodland areas.
Even though the park is so remote it is accessible from Dar es Salaam by scheduled or charter flights and very much worth a visit for those who enjoy the more adventurous and active side of an African safari.
