Highlights

In Ancient Maasai Footsteps

On the edge of the Great Rift Valley, in Kenya’s lesser-visited Loita Hills, there’s a region known as the ‘Forest of the Lost Child’. In this peaceful and dramatic landscape of thick forest-clad hills, little has changed in the last 50 years. Here, you can stay at a low-impact mobile camp and immerse yourself in authentic Maasai life, walking with Loita guides to follow ancient elephant trails and learn about the local culture, traditions and wildlife.

Campfire stories

Leave Nairobi this morning on a beautiful drive to Morijo. Meet your team and set off on a three-hour hike to River Camp in the Ol Lasur Valley, where you'll be welcomed with cool drinks and warm smiles before taking your seat around the campfire for storytelling under the stars.

Hike to a waterfall

Today, climb the edge of the Great Rift Valley to take in the panoramic views. Then head down into the valley to discover an ancient waterfall where you can take a refreshing swim under the cascading waters. After a short climb back up to a scenic spot, lunch awaits. A leisurely hike takes you back to River Camp, where your guides will teach you about traditional uses of the forest’s flora and fauna.

Donkey caravan trails

After a hot drink and breakfast to ease you into the day, set off on a hike through the ‘Forest of the Lost Child’ and up onto the mountains overlooking the Great Rift Valley. Your small low-impact mobile camp will travel with you on a donkey caravan as you follow old animal trails. Once you reach your destination at the picturesque Nguruman Escarpment, camp will be made and a small kraal (natural enclosure) will be set up for the donkeys.

A wild oasis

Today there’s an early start to walk in the cooler morning temperatures. You will say goodbye to your camp crew as you head off with your guides for the three-hour hike down into the bottom of the valley, where a vehicle will meet you and drive you to Lentorre, an oasis deep in the heart of the Rift Valley. You’ll arrive in time for lunch overlooking vast wilderness – a dramatically different landscape to the lush hills of the Loitas. Cool off by the pool and enjoy a relaxing afternoon at leisure.

Return to Nairobi

Enjoy a leisurely breakfast this morning before making your way back to Nairobi for your flight home.
