    This trip takes you to the heart of Oman’s cities, deserts and cultural history as you travel between Muscat and Salalah. Take in the wonders of the Sultan Qaboos Grand Mosque, Bait Al Zubair museum and Muttrah Souq in Muscat before transferring to Salalah. Here, marvel at the views of the mountains and Mughsail Beach’s blow holes then enjoy the vast wadis and some dune driving at Rub-Al Khali, after a day exploring the excavations at Ubar. Relax on the beach and by the pool in beautiful sunshine, contemplating all that you have experienced over the last few days.

    Muscat, Oman

    Maximise your time in Oman by flying overnight to Muscat. We’ll meet you at the airport and drive you to your hotel. Take the rest of the day to settle in and appreciate the change in culture and climate, as well as enjoying the excellent amenities at the hotel. 

    Muscat

    Muscat is a modern wonder where today’s hustle and bustle meets history and tradition. This is a coastal city that mixes Arabic architecture with vibrant African influences. Head straight into its buzzing streets and experience the hospitality of one of the Middle East's friendliest nations. Be sure to visit the magnificent Sultan Qaboos Grand Mosque and then discover Omani antiquities in the Bait Al Zubair museum. As the day ends, walk along the corniche to the Muttrah Souq and haggle like a local for some excellent bargains.

    Muscat – Salalah

    Today fly down to the subtropical city of Salalah. Swathed in vibrant green vegetation and surrounded by turquoise seas, this is a verdant and vibrant area of Oman. Closely aligned in character and climate to East Africa, this area is a wonderful oasis for camels and other livestock. Spend time on the beautiful beaches and discover the local hospitality. Your hotel for the next five nights is situated on a white-sand beach and is perfect for relaxing and exploring the area.

    Salalah

    Today, visit the Tomb of Job in the jebels (mountains). Drive past stunning views as you make your way to Mughsail Beach. Here you can watch the blow holes spurt out sea water during high tide. Hold onto your seat as you drive the Hairpin Bend Roads, taking you to a wadi and the Yemen border, before spotting seasonal birds at the nearby bird sanctuary. Spot frankincense trees along your route – this crop a symbol of life to the locals.

    Salalah

    After breakfast, head out to Ubar. The ruins of this fabled city are chronicled in literary works as the Atlantis of the Sands and are exciting and dividing archeaologists around the world. Move on to Rub-Al Khali, the largest stretch of continuous sand desert in the world, and get your blood pumping with some dune driving before returning to the hotel.

    Salalah

    Spend time as you please over the next couple of days. You can choose to take things easy, soaking up sun by the pool and sampling the excellent cuisine in the on-site restaurant. We can also organise activities such as wine tasting, fishing and dolphin watching. There should even be enough time to revive and rejuvenate in the hotel’s spa.

    It’s time to say goodbye to Salalah today. Watch the wadis drop out of sight as you fly home, having discovered the best of Oman. Or choose to extend your stay in the Middle East with a few more nights in Muscat or the mountains.
