Classic Nile

A cruise down the majestic River Nile makes the wonders of Ancient Egypt come alive. You’ll be cruising on a floating five-star hotel with every modern comfort imaginable. This is a classic Nile tour with a pronounced sense of style. Drift past temples, tombs, colossal statues, wildlife and farmlands that line the banks as they have for millennia. At your side you’ll have the expert tutelage of an Egyptologist, revealing secret insights and deepening your appreciation. See where Howard Carter discovered Tutankhamun’s burial chamber, lose yourself in the meandering alleys of bustling souks, ponder ancient hieroglyphics. And then relax as you sail gently down the Nile.

UK - Luxor

When you arrive in Egypt we’ll be there to take you to into the capital of the Upper Nile, Luxor. The Sanctuary Sun Boat IV will be your floating home for the next seven nights. So unpack and relax as you’re delivered in supreme comfort to some of the most amazing sites of the ancient world.

Luxor - Dendera - Luxor

As you meander down the river towards Dendera, you can watch daily life unfold along the banks, seemingly unchanged for millennia. When you arrive at Dendera, you’ll find a truly spectacular temple complex. Explore the eerie underground passages and chambers, and study the hieroglyphics etched into the towering pillars. Then you can tuck into afternoon tea on the trip back to Luxor, before a gourmet dinner, accompanied by Egyptian dance. Note, this day may be done overland if water levels are low.

Luxor - Kom Ombo

As you sail south, you’ll pass the temple at Esna, devoted to the crocodile-headed god Khnum. Then you’ll continue on to Edfu and the Temple of Horus, the falcon-headed god. This is the largest and best-preserved in Egypt.

Kom Ombo - Aswan

The ancient city of Aswan is your next port of call. Visit the Temple of Philae on Agilkia Island. It was moved here brick by brick following the widespread flooding caused by the construction of the Aswan Dam. Enjoy a cocktail on the deck of the Sun Boat, as you watch the sun dip below the horizon.

With its lush palm trees offering much-needed shade, Aswan is full of colourful spice markets and lives its life in a laid back manner. It’s a lovely place to wander around. You can hop on a traditional single-sail felucca for an afternoon’s sailing around the Aswan islands and Nubian villages.

Aswan - Kom Ombo

Heading back up the Nile, you’ll be bound for one of the most fascinating stops on the trip. The Temple of Kom Ombo is dedicated to the crocodile god, Sobek, and is home to lots of rather macabre mummified crocodiles. After a day’s sightseeing, it’s back to your floating accommodation for a delicious Egyptian banquet.

Kom Ombo - Luxor

We are nearing the end of this Egyptian odyssey, but there’s still so much to see and do. Your Egyptologist will guide you through the Temple of Karnak, where you’ll see the Great Hypostyle Hall’s veritable forest of 134 gargantuan columns. At the Valley of the Kings you’ll encounter Tutankhamun’s burial chamber. Across the Nile the grandiose temple of the female pharaoh Hatshepsut lies in wait. Then it’s back on board for a farewell feast.

After breakfast, we’ll take you to the airport for your flight back to the UK.
