Wander the winelands and jump on a tram for a hop-on-hop-off tour of some of the most revered wine estates in the Franschhoek Valley. Hit the open road on the Garden Route on your way to Knysna, perched in a forest-enclosed lagoon. Round off this incredible journey with a three-day safari on the Eastern Cape. Africa’s rarest wildlife awaits as you head out on nature drives, river cruises and bush walks.

Arrive Cape Town, South Africa

Maximise your time by flying overnight from the UK. Enjoy a range of onboard amenities and modern convenience before touching down in cosmopolitan Cape Town.

Cape Town

Meet your A&K South Africa representative and transfer to Kensington Place hotel. This afternoon enjoy a guided tour of Table Mountain, a backdrop to cosmopolitan Cape Town. A great start to your holiday and the opportunity to view the Mother City from above. Cape Town is a sight to behold. Your guide will return you to your hotel for your evening. Dine in the hotel this evening or discover one of the many foodie wonders in Cape Town.

Cape Town

Cape Town invites you to explore. Visit the boutiques on Bree Street, the art galleries in Woodstock and the Zeitz Museum of Contemporary Africa Art (MOCCA). Soak up sunshine on Clifton’s beaches or stroll along sandy Camp Bay.

Cape Town

A full day to explore the Cape Peninsula with your private guide, who will bring this area to life with lots of interesting stories. The aim of the day is to explore the highlights of the Cape Peninsula, looking for any excuse to embrace the ocean and the great outdoors and explore one of the most unique marine habitats in the world. Enjoy activities like Muizenberg's colourful cabins and surf mecca, or meet the resident seals and fishing folk at Kalk Bay. Try stand-up paddleboarding or kayaking at Simon's Town, or go on a conservation walk to see the penguins near Boulders Beach. Hike to Cape Point to see shipwrecks, whales, white sand and wildlife. For lunch enjoy a private wild peninsula picnic before driving back along the Cape's most scenic road with all 144 curves. Enjoy an early evening sundowner like a local before your guide returns you to your hotel.

Cape Town to Franschhoek

We’re big fans of a road trip here at A&K and think this one will be pretty spectacular. Today, wind your way through the Winelands to Stellenbosch. Enjoy panoramic scenery and look out for flora and fauna endemic to this part of the world including rare succulents and the Cape sugarbird.  Check into La Fontaine Franschhoek. La Fontaine is the ideal guesthouse from which to explore the various local and international award-winning restaurants, art galleries, and wine estates.

Franschhoek

With hundreds of wineries and vineyards to explore, spend two days here savouring South Africa’s famous winelands. Alight the Wine Tram as it trundles through the Franschhoek Valley. Hop off at any (or all) of the eleven stops along the route to explore some of South Africa’s oldest and most renowned estates – and maybe try a vintage or two. In Stellenbosch, the Foodies on Foot Tour is a fun and delicious way to explore the town’s gastro scene. Taste your way around the town and enjoy a sit-down lunch.

Franschhoek to Knysna

Spend today cruising along the Garden Route, admiring incredible coastal scenery. On your way to the lagoon town of Knysna, pass through the picturesque seaside town of Hermanus – a hot spot for whale watching. Soak up the stunning scenery and stop to capture unforgettable photos of the landscape.

Knysna

Knysna’s enchanting scenery is yours to explore. Your guide will meet you on your first morning and will be at your disposal to explore the area. Take a hike through the Tsitsikamma National Park, breathe in the awe-inspiring forests or explore the Featherbed Nature Reserve. The rest of the time is yours to explore. Try the famous Knysna oyster, go hiking on the Robberg Peninsula, spotting seals below, or take a boat trip out to see dolphins and whales (in season).

Knysna to Eastern Cape

Make your way to the Eastern Cape for an amazing wildlife-spotting adventure. Leave your vehicle and step into the wild outdoors with an expert host. Set out in search of the Big Five on a fully guided safari experience, learning about the natural wonders found in this stunning region of Africa. Your home for the next three nights will be Kariega Settlers Drift, a luxurious resort comprising elegant tented suites. Enjoy your first safari drive in this 10,000-hectare malaria-free wilderness.

Eastern Cape

Over the next two days, discover the enormous array of wildlife that calls the Eastern Cape home. Embark on safari drives to see rare animals such as the Cape buffalo and black rhino. Guided bush walks bring you up close to the diverse range of flora that vivifies the landscape. River cruises are your opportunity to observe smaller mammals as they gather on the banks. Keep an eye out for hyrax, mongoose and Cape porcupine. Between safari drives, return to your resort for delicious meals and unwind with a sundowner.

Port Elizabeth to UK

This morning, embark on one final safari drive. Look out for elusive wildlife you have not yet observed or capture some exciting photos to show friends back home. Afterwards, wave a fond farewell to the Eastern Cape as you leave for the airport. Return your hire car and board your transfer flight to Johannesburg. From here, board your connection to the UK.
