Markets, temples, great food and a rich culture
Set on the banks of the Chao Phraya River, Bangkok is a vibrant city with a lot to offer. On Bangkok holidays you can explore the city's winding canals and colourful floating markets. Visit its shining temples – many have giant golden Buddhas sat serenely inside them.
To discover Bangkok like a local, use the tuk tuks that throng the streets. Take a wander around the old lanes of Chinatown, walk along the famous Khaosan Road or relax on Bangkok’s busy waterfront. If you’d like to explore a little further we’d recommend taking a long-tailed boat ride along the hidden canals to see local life on the waterside.
A fantastic destination for shopping, Bangkok is home to everything from vibrant street markets to designer retailers. It’s easy to get around the centre using the modern SkyTrain and Metro. Food is another highlight of a Bangkok holiday. You can sample the street food in the city’s markets, enjoy a noodle dish from one of the many carts found in the city centre or head out into the countryside to sample some regional specialities.
If you have more time we recommend going to watch a Thai boxing bout or a cycling trip outside the main city. Kanchanaburi, location of the railway bridge on the river Kwai, makes a fascinating day trip too.
