  • About

Le Domaine des Etangs is a fairytale French château in Charente, surrounded by the picturesque Cognac countryside. This 13th-century former fiefdom, with its conical-topped spires and stone walls, now serves as a luxury retreat set amidst more than 1,000 hectares of meadows, ponds and woodland.

Inside, the classical tastefully blends with the contemporary. Various ‘salon’ living areas afford you cosy places to gather, populated by designer décor and objets d’art. Children (and the young at heart) will love the attic playroom, whilst bibliophiles can double-down on their retreat in the comfortable library. Come evening, any one of the château’s individually designed rooms and suites – themed around celestial bodies – will leave you starry eyed.

Le Domaine des Etangs offers further accommodation options across its rustic longère building and farmhouse cottages. Most of the longère’s duplex-style suites feature private terraces and lounge areas, whilst the charming stand-alone cottages provide even greater seclusion amidst the bucolic grounds (and pets are welcome).

This property promises a truly holistic stay. To calm the heart, take advantage of the Gallo-Roman-inspired thermal baths in the château basement; warm up in the Caldarium hammam, or cool down in the Frigidarium. If it’s your stomach in need of VIP treatment, the gourmet restaurant inspired by nature serves up the perfect aliments du jour. Or why not treat the eyes? Le Domaine des Etangs features its very own art gallery, Le Laiterie, as well as a sculpture park.
