Highlights

Discover Rome & Venice’s art & architecture

Discover the grandeur of Italy’s heritage as you visit the spectacular monuments, galleries and historic sites of Rome and Venice. Tour the Colosseum, Pantheon and the treasures of Cardinal Scipione Borghese's famous collection. Take time out to explore the high-end shops and restaurants too. The wonders continue as you witness the legacy of the Venetian Republic, discover how the city is intertwined with the Far East and sample the bacari treats. You can also drink coffee at Casanova’s favourite coffeehouse and see the sights of the Grand Canal by gondola.

UK - Rome

Check into your hotel before a tour of the Eternal City. Climb onto the back of a Vespa and whizz up the age-old cobblestone streets to visit all the historic sites and intriguing neighbourhoods. Stop along the way to hear the stories behind the monuments and ancient buildings. Catch your breath with a coffee and a local snack. Your tour finishes atop the largest hill in the city to enjoy some sublime cityscape views.

Rome

Begin today with a visit to the Colosseum, one of Rome’s top attractions. Commissioned by Emperor Vespasian, this gladiatorial stadium accommodated up to 50,000 spectators – an impressive architectural feat. Your afternoon is yours to enjoy. Either head to the shopping districts for some retail therapy or continue your journey through history. You can witness the incredible Sistine Chapel within Vatican City, or visit the Pantheon, the best-preserved Roman monument in the city.

Rome

Your final day here is packed with artistic and architectural highlights. Tour Villa Borghese and see Cardinal Scipione Borghese's magnificent collection. Behold some of Italy’s most important works, from Titian's Sacred and Profane Love to the Caravaggio canvases. Admire baroque and neoclassical sculptures of Bernini and Canova too, among many other masterpieces. Afterwards, explore the surrounding parkland by bicycle or take a boat out on the lake. You can also visit the Spanish Steps and Trevi fountain in the afternoon.

Rome – Venice

Head from the Eternal City of Rome to Venice, the City of Masks. The train ride cuts north through the heart of Italy, showcasing some gorgeous scenery. Arrive and transfer to your stylish hotel before either an afternoon at leisure or a bacari tour. Bacari are traditional venues where local food and wine are served. With a huge variety of regional cuisine to be sampled, this is the perfect way to get acquainted with Venice.

Venice

Enjoy a morning and afternoon tour to see both sides of the city. Begin at Doge's Palace, once the centre of power here. Your private guide elaborates on the stories behind the amazing artwork and architecture to reveal the city’s opulent past. After a splendid lunch, continue your tour to see the darker side. Your guide brings the antique palazzi and hidden alleyways along the Grand Canal to life with all the local myths and legends.

Venice

Venice’s outward focus has made this unique city a point of convergence for many cultures. Visit Campo San Bartolomeo, where a souk-style market has operated for centuries, and Campiello del Milion, from which Marco Polo set sail to the East. In the charming Cannaregio district, find the first Jewish quarter in Europe. After a water taxi to St Mark’s Square, finish at Caffè Florian. One of the first coffeehouses in Europe, guests here have included Goethe, Casanova and even Dickens.

Venice - UK

After so many incredible sights in these antique centres of Italy, you may wish to extend your stay. You can head to the beaches of the south or continue your voyage through history by setting sail to visit the archaeological sites of the Mediterranean islands. Alternatively, transfer to the airport to board your flight home.
