Highlights

Luxury Safari in Tanzania & Rwanda

In this 7-day itinerary, visit Volcanoes National Park and Kigali in Rwanda before Tanzania’s Serengeti.

For nature lovers, this is a safari-of-a-lifetime experiencing two of the planet’s most wildlife-rich destinations. In Rwanda, follow in the steps of Dian Fossey who dedicated her life to researching mountain gorillas in the Virunga Mountains. You’ll get close to magnificent silverbacks and their families with the help of expert trackers. For even more soul-stirring encounters, immerse yourself in the wide-open plains of Tanzania’s Serengeti to witness legendary game in the African bush. Scan for bucket-list Big 5 and camp under canvas in ultimate style.

Arrive Kigali, Rwanda

After your overnight flight, land in Rwanda’s lofty capital, Kigali where on arrival you will be met by an A&K representative. Your hotel is a two-hour drive. Along the way, stop at the Genocide Memorial Centre, a poignant reminder of the country’s tragic history and subsequent transformation. Then journey north-west to the Volcanoes National Park where your lodge awaits nestled in the emerald mountains. Settle into your nest-like suite, order a cocktail and gaze out at the verdant wilderness.

Volcanoes National Park

Up in the Virunga Mountains, Volcanoes National Park is home to half of the region’s 780 mountain gorillas. Led by experienced trackers, today you can ascend the forest in search of one of the 10 habituated gorilla families in the area. Depending on their location, you could trek up to four hours to where you can quietly observe these extraordinary creatures for up close. You may see mighty silverbacks roaming the territory, baby gorillas huddling closely to their mothers and youngsters swinging in the trees – a truly emotional experience. After an hour with these incredible primates, head back down to the lodge.

Volcanoes National Park – Kigali

Wake up early to go trekking through the park’s bamboo forest in search of Rwanda’s golden monkeys. You’ll spot them in groups of up to 30 and enjoy an hour watching these attractive creatures interact with each other. Afterwards, a driver will take you to Kigali, your pit-stop for the night.

Kigali – Serengeti, Tanzania

It’s an early morning wake-up call for your flight to Tanzania. From one spectacular landscape to another, arrive at the Serengeti where you’ll be met and transferred in a 4x4 to your classic bush safari camp. As you drive across the endless plains, keep an eye out for zebras, lions and giraffes among others. You’ll arrive in time for sunset– lap it up with a gin and tonic by the camp fire.

Serengeti

As far as safari goes, the Serengeti comes up trumps with one of the world’s greatest wildlife spectacles, the wildebeest migration. Your camp sits in prime position, designed to allow you to follow the huge herds on unlimited game drives. Set off into the wild with highly-trained guides, near obsessed with the migration. Whether you witness a nail-biting river crossing or the calving season between February and March, feast your eyes on two million mammals thundering through the land. No two days are the same.

Depart Serengeti, Tanzania

Bid farewell to the African Bush. A driver will take you to the airstrip from where you will fly to the airport in good time for your overnight flight home.
