See the majestic Ugandan mountain gorilla at home in the Bwindi rainforest
For decades our guides have been working in the Bwindi Impenetrable Forest, locating the mountain gorillas of Uganda on bespoke safaris for our clients. Tucked away in the southwest of Uganda, and with altitudes ranging from anywhere between 1,000 and 2,600m, this mist-shrouded National Park is thick with tropical rainforest that is regarded as one of the most biologically diverse parks in Africa.
Yet it has a star attraction. Bwindi is the natural habitat of the mountain gorilla. Our guides know the region intimately, offering you the chance to track these inspiring primates in their natural environment. While notoriously shy, with half of the world's population of mountain gorilla living beneath Bwindi's humid forest canopy, you stand an excellent chance of spotting one. Our clients often tell us that these gentle beasts are the highlight of their tailor-made holiday in Uganda.
While Bwindi’s gorilla steal the show, the park is also home to over 120 other species of mammal. You’ll have the chance to photograph a number of playful primates, including the black and white colobus, and the red-tailed and blue monkey. The forest is also awash with the call of local birdlife – over 350 bird exotic bird species have been recorded here.
