As you traverse the Zambezi River, experience the awe that has inspired generations of explorers to catch a glimpse of this forgotten land. Your course takes you over a section of grade-two rapids, before your guide beaches the craft when the light begins to wane. Here, you may disembark and enjoy a sublime sunset over the mighty river with a cocktail in hand.
The river is the beating heart of this environment, proving a livelihood to predators and a vital resource for herd animals such as elephant and zebra. As you drift with the current, look for crocodile and hippopotamus in the water, while eagles dive from above to catch unwary fish and the resident species of heron and egret wait in ambush among the reeds.
After your sunset cruise return to Sanctuary Sussi & Chuma for dinner under the stars. Named after David Livingstone's faithful friends, Sussi and Chuma, the lodge which lies on the banks of the Zambezi, features the perfect open-air dining area.
