Highlights

Exploring the outback

Three days exploring down under and the iconic northern outback. Witness saltwater crocodiles jumping for prey in the teeming Adelaide River. You’ll discover traditional rock art in Arnhem Land and swim in freshwater plunge pools. Nature lovers will find paradise in a flourishing billabong teeming with exotic species. If it’s complete wilderness immersion you’re after, enjoy a quintessential bush experience camping out under the stars.

A crocodile safari

Journey into the deepest reaches of the ancient Kakadu National Park – a land of floodplains, woodland and sandstone escarpments. The wildlife is nothing short of spectacular. Cruise down the Adelaide River to witness saltwater crocodiles leaping from the water to catch their prey. Then take a boat ride along the Yellow Water Billabong at sunset when the amber light reflects off the mirage-like water. Your guide, from the traditional owners Bininj, will offer up secrets of the land as you admire jabirus, eagles and buffalo speckling the floodplains.

Access to Arnhem Land

Today you have the rare opportunity to view Aboriginal rock art on Australia’s sacred Arnhem Land. This area stretches over 97,000 square kilometres with some 20,000 inhabitants. Only a select few visitors with permit-holders can step foot on this spiritual terrain. Trace Aboriginal history through some of the finest rock art depicting hunting images and scenes of the first European settlers etched in the stone escarpment. You’ll meet an indigenous community on Injalak Hill where its members continue their painting heritage and weaving traditions.

Walking to waterfalls

Take a trip to the southern end of the Kakadu where you’ll find a pretty waterfall called Maguk (or Barramundi) Gorge. From here, take a gentle one-kilometre hike winding through tropical savannah and rocky escarpments. The trail leads you to the base of a gorge where you’ll find a scenic emerald pool, ideal for a post-hike swim. You’ll also be able to dip in and out of a series of crystal clear rockpools along the way.
