Summer Costa Rica
Sun, sea and scenery you’ll remember forever – this tropical adventure has it all. Embark on a journey into the rainforest regions of Costa Rica. After an overnight stay in bustling San Jose, your first stop is Arenal, renowned for its verdant landscapes and magnificent volcano. Relax at your resort – located within thermal springs – and soak up the spectacular scenery. From here, head to Turrialba and the shores of the Pacuare River. Explore this wildlife haven and cruise the mighty river. Your final stop is beautiful Puerto Viejo, a picture-perfect coastal region with velvet sands and incredible views of the ocean.
Arrive San Jose, Costa Rica
Arrive today in lively Costa Rica and meet with your representative from Costa Rican Trails and transfer to your first home away from home – iconic Grano De Oro. This enchanting guesthouse is the perfect blend of classical tradition and contemporary comfort. Unwind in this magnificent Victorian-esque mansion complete with stained glass features, carved wooden furniture and original artwork. Set in the heart of Costa Rica’s capital, you are only moments from the city’s best museums, historical sites and restaurants. Relax this evening and prepare for exciting adventures tomorrow.
Turrialba
After breakfast, enjoy a scenic transfer to Turrialba – home to the Aquiares plantation, the largest Rainforest-Alliance-certified coffee farm in Costa Rica. The owners work closely with the community to promote sustainable agriculture practices. Meet with staff before heading out to pick some coffee and plant your tree. Afterwards, enjoy a visit to a local waterfall included followed by a delicious lunch. Complete your day with a tour of the beneficio for a coffee roasting and tasting experience. This evening, return to San Jose and unwind at Grana De Oro.
San Jose to Arenal
Wave goodbye to San Jose as you set off for Arenal, renowned for its enchanting cloud forests, world-famous lake and the mighty volcano, La Fortuna de San Carlos. This magical region is a verdant paradise, filled with a remarkable range of tropical flora and fauna. Look out for howler monkey swinging through the trees and toucan perched high in the branches. Alternatively, head out into glittering waters with a snorkel or try your hand at windsurfing. Later, check-in to Tabacón, a luxury spa resort set around a thermal spring.
Arenal
Today, the wilderness calls as you head to Costa Rica’s stunning northern plains and the incredible Caño Blanco Nature Sanctuary. Upon arrival, board a riverboat and set off into the intricate network of waterways. Admire the lush scenery, observing the spectacular array of colourful birds who call this landscape home. Head out on a floating safari at the Caño Blanco Blue Lagoon in search of turtle, iguana and other local wildlife. Afterwards, enjoy a traditional lunch with a local family, learning about Costa Rican culture and sampling delicious local flavours.
Arenal
Today, explore Arenal up close as you journey in the local conservation area on horseback. Savour views of the volcano as you canter through the landscape with the wind in your hair. This tour is ideal for beginners or expert riders as on-site expert guides provide a thorough induction. Begin with a ride through a private reserve and follow the winding trails up through the farmlands. Pause at ‘El Silencio’, an observation point with spectacular views of the volcano, before lunching by a blue lagoon and enjoy a kayak tour.
Arenal - Turrialba
Leave Arenal today and head to the elegant Pacuare Lodge. This luxurious eco-lodge is nestled deep in the heart of the rainforest, on the banks of the Pacuare River. Wake up to the sounds of the wild outdoors and savour panoramic views from your private outdoor space. Recognised by the World Tourism Organisation as a pioneer of eco-tourism and sustainable practices, the resort is constructed using local wood and with palm-thatched roofs. Enjoy an exhilarating white-water rafting experience before a delicious lunch and the rest of the afternoon at your leisure.
Pacuare Lodge
Today is yours to explore. Make the most of the impressive range of activities included in your stay at Pacuare. Day at leisure to enjoy some of the experiences included in your visit. Set off on a self-guided hike through the wilderness, discover life in the canopies or go canyoning in El Tesorito. Alternatively, unwind at your jungle hideaway nestled deep in the Costa Rican rainforest. Soak up the scenery from the infinity pool or enjoy an elegant dining experience in the restaurant, sampling excellent fusion cuisine.
Turrialba - Puerto Viejo
After breakfast, set off for an exciting day of white-water rafting. Journey down the Pacuare River through canyons, past rushing waterfalls and among the immaculate rainforest. Arrive in Siquirres and change into dry clothes before enjoying a delicious packed lunch against a panoramic backdrop. Meet here with your private transfer to Puerto Viejo. Upon arrival, spend the rest of the day at your leisure to sunbathe, swim or stroll along the white sand. Enjoy delicious Caribbean-style dishes made from fresh local ingredients and unwind in the warm tropical breeze.
Puerto Viejo
Spend your last two days in Costa Rica, discovering the highlights of beautiful Puerto Viejo. Listen to the call of the ocean and spend an exciting day on the sea, kayaking or surfing. Alternatively, immerse yourself in the BriBri culture to connect with indigenous people. Take a moment to absorb the tranquil atmosphere and indulge in a Caribbean style cooking class. Slightly further afield are the Reserve Manzanillo and Cahuita National Park – large wildlife conservation areas home to caiman, manatee and crocodile.
Depart Puerto Viejo
Wake up one last time in this magical paradise. Enjoy a delicious breakfast and perhaps one final walk across the sand. Bid a fond farewell to Costa Rica today as you transfer from your hotel to Juan Santamaria International Airport. Board your return flight to the UK and relax, enjoying a range of onboard amenities. Touch down on UK soil and meet with your onward transfer.
