About The Charles Hotel

Built in a former university library, The Charles Hotel is a luxurious five-star property located in the heart of Munich's cultural district. Throughout the hotel, subtle Bavarian designs are complemented by a modern Art Deco style. Art lovers will appreciate the various original works on display throughout the hotel, from Franz von Lenbach paintings and photography by Hubertus von Hohenlohe to Faber Castell sculptures. From its central base it's an easy walk to the Neue Pinakothek, the acclaimed art museum focused on works from the 18th and 19th century.

The hotel exudes a contemporary style with a masculine edge both inside and out, unsurprising as it was after Sir Rocco Forte's father. Elegant bedrooms boast lavish limestone en suites and views overlooking the city or gardens. The Classic Rooms are the largest in Munich, while Suites feature French balconies and separate living spaces. Many suites can be interconnected, making them a perfect choice for families. The Monforte Presidential Suite, situated on the top floor, features a private terrace, grand piano in the lounge and opulent marble bathroom.

Dining out in Munich presents you with a range of traditional or eclectic options, and The Charles hosts the fantastic Restaurant Davvero onsite, offering authentic Mediterranean cuisine with views overlooking the Old Botanical Garden. In summer, opt to enjoy dinner out on the charming leafy terrace, while in winter you can cosy up in the dining room with homemade mulled wine and roasted chestnuts. The cosmopolitan bar, aptly named The Bar, is a frequent watering hole for Munich's stylish residents, and it's here you will find an array of fine cognacs, whiskeys and wines. A relaxed menu of classic dishes is served in the evening, and by day, the bar serves a delicious selection of traditional afternoon teas with a wide selection of teas and homemade cakes.

Facilities at The Charles include Munich's longest indoor hotel pool and The Charles SPA with Finnish sauna, steam room and state of the art fitness centre. Near to the hotel, fill up on tasty Bavarian delights at Viktualienmarkt, one of Europe's best gourmet food markets, before heading over to Munich's legendary beer hall, Hofbräuhaus, to sample the region's finest brews. The hotel is also within close proximity to the exclusive shopping areas of Theatinerstraße and Maximilianstraße, one of the city's Royal Avenues. We enjoyed a visit to the neo-Gothic New Town Hall's glockenspiel nearby, which had Bavarian nights dancing and jousting the melodic sounds of chimes and bells, every day at 11am.
