Highlights

Hiking in Tuscany

Spend three days exploring Tuscany’s painterly landscapes – cypress avenues, sweeping vineyards and rolling hills sprinkled with terracotta towns. There couldn’t be a more idyllic place for a ramble. Hike around historic Fiesole discovering Roman remains. Stroll the Renaissance town of Pienza and hop on a bike to go wine tasting with a private cellar tour.

Hiking Tuscan hills

Just north of Florence lies the small hilltop town of Fiesole, the perfect excuse to escape the city. Hike through the shaded hilly terrain to see Etruscan remains and ancient sandstone quarries used by Renaissance sculptors. From here, climb Monte Ceceri. At the peak, you’ll find a monument to the flying machine experiments conducted by Leonardo da Vinci here. Press on through the perfumed fields lined with olive trees and villas owned by great Florentine families, who used them as summer retreats.

Pienza’s medieval marvels

Take today at a gentle pace, starting with picture-perfect views of the sweeping Val d’Orcia. Follow the cypress trees to Pienza. A medieval hamlet which, starting in 1459, Pope Pius II rebuilt into the Renaissance town you see today. It’s UNESCO-credited, and rightly so, with frescoed churches, tiny piazzas, a beautiful duomo and magnificent palazzos that remain untouched. Meander down alleys with some lovely spots for lunch and craft shops to dip into.

Two-wheel wine tour

Today you’ll meet a specialist guide for a cycling tour of the region. Hop on a bike and peddle through the countryside with plenty of photo stops. Your target? A renowned Tuscan winery where you can refuel on juicy bruschetta, cold meats and locally produced cheese. Accompany this with Sangiovese reds and superlative chiantis. A guided tour of the cellar offers further insight into the regional tipple.
