Highlights

Delhi for foodies

Take two nights to explore India’s sprawling capital and gastronomy as rich as its culture. Old Delhi beckons with jostling street food stalls and smoking woks offering a bounty of traditional snacks. Visit a local family home for a fun-filled cooking class. In between feasts, take a rickshaw ride around the city’s seductive landmarks.

Street food favourites

It’s almost impossible to walk around Old Delhi and not feel hungry. Gastronomy lies at the heart of the city with a street food stall virtually on every corner. Walking through the labyrinth of 17th-century alleys is a frenzy for the senses with wafts of crisp, sweet jalebis and spiced-scented oil filling the air. Your guide will scout out all the culinary hot spots where you can sample a medley of delicacies from stuffed flat breads to fiery chickpea masalas. Combat the spice with a lassi, a refreshing icy yoghurt drink.

Delhi rickshaw tour

One of the best ways to navigate Delhi’s cacophony is by way of a local rickshaw. Hop aboard and zip through the streets passing vendors selling jewel-like vegetables, bazaars exploding with colourful textiles and huge sacks of spices. Skirt around landmarks such as the Red Fort and the opulent Jama Masjid, one of India's largest mosques. Peckish? Pause at markets to graze on crispy samosas and Indian-style omelettes.

Private cooking class

Take Delhi’s culinary scene to the next level with a fun cooking class. Spend the afternoon with a local family who will invite you into their home and teach you how to recreate a traditional Indian dish or two. This could be a rich and creamy masala or a fragrant chicken biryani. Gather in the kitchen, the heart of the home, where you’ll learn to use regional ingredients and ancestral techniques. Then eat dinner all together as a family.
