Summer Sri Lanka

Journey through the verdant interior, marvel at the rich wildlife, stay on a tea plantation and relax on the open beaches of Sri Lanka. Our guides and naturalists will bring this teardrop-shaped island to life during the quieter summer months. Each location from city to coast has been chosen to reflect the great weather during this period. Join a ranger to view leopard in Wilpattu National Park. Meander through its sand-rimmed natural lakes and look out for Asian Elephant, sloth bear and spotted deer. Head to the shores of Passikudah and go snorkelling and enjoy a glass-bottom boat ride to view the tropical fish on the reef. Round off your trip with a refreshing cuppa during a tea experience while staying on a plantation in Kegalle.

UK - Colombo

Overnight flight from London to Colombo

Negombo

Arrive in Colombo where you will be met by your guide and transferred to your luxury hotel. Enjoy your first glimpse of the colour and culture of Sri Lanka’s capital as your travel north to the coastal town of Negombo.

Negombo - Wilpattu

After breakfast at your hotel, check out and transfer to the lowlands of Wilpattu which is approximately a three-hour drive. Check into the luxury tented camp and relax. After enjoying lunch, you can read or take a nap on your private veranda. During the late afternoon, enjoy a drive through Wilpattu National Park (known as the ‘Land of Lakes’) with a specialised ranger (luxury shared jeep with other guests) which is renowned for its leopard population.

Wilpattu

Before breakfast enjoy an early morning drive through Wilpattu National Park meandering through its sand-rimmed natural lakes known as ‘Villus’. Your ranger will help you spot leopard, Asian Elephant, sloth bear, spotted deer, and water buffaloes. Return to camp for a hearty breakfast and spend time relaxing. After lunch, embark on a ride with a ranger on board a luxury shared jeep. Return to camp and spend the rest of the evening at leisure. Enjoy dinner accompanied by a canopy of stars.

Wilpattu - Passikudah

As the sun rises over Wilpattu National Park, join your ranger for a final drive. Keep your eyes open for stirring wildlife from the wild boars and ruddy mongoose. Birdwatchers may spot the Sri Lankan Grey Hornbill or Oriental Dwarf Kingfisher. Return to camp for breakfast. Check out and depart for Passikudah. The drive, which can take up to five hours, will take you across the country to the east coast. Check-in to the beachfront hotel and spend the rest of the evening at leisure. Activities include snorkelling, diving, and fishing.

Passikudah

During the next two days you can relax under the swaying palm trees and take a dip in the swimming pool of this beachside hotel. Activities at the hotel include cooking classes, cycle tours, watersports and whale watching. All the family can enjoy glass-bottom boat rides while the more active can dive to the reef or go snorkelling among the tropical fish. Round off each day with a signature treatment in the Ayurvedic Spa before gathering for dinner.

Passikudah – Kegalle

After enjoying breakfast at the hotel, check out. Join your guide for the drive southwards to Kegalle set high in the hills and home to tea plantations. Stay in a restored colonial planter's bungalow, set on a private estate. Relax before dinner taking a stroll in the verdant hills or swim in the pool.

Kegalle

After a leisurely breakfast, join a member of the hotel staff on a morning Tea Experience. Learn more about how tea is grown with a visit to a plantation and factory not far from the hotel. Sample some of the refreshing tea and stock up with your favourite to take home. Spend the afternoon at leisure with a garden walk or swim. Learn to cook a traditional feast by joining the house chef from choosing the fresh produce at the local market to creating the dish in the kitchen.
