Experience a doors-off helicopter flight over Big Island’s rainforests and waterfalls, as you head to Kīlauea Volcano. Continuously erupting for over thirty years, you can even feel the heat from your helicopter. Afterwards, your volcanologist guide (a professor at University of Hawaii) takes you on an exciting journey through the rugged landscape of Kaʻū. Visit Jaggar Museum, Nāhuku and Halema‘uma‘u Crater, get acquainted with the local legends and take lunch at Volcano House, perched on a crater edge.
Head to Kohala for a small-group Big Island adventure aboard an all-terrain vehicle (16+). Today you can tick off another island on your Hawaii family vacation. After an hour-long ferry ride you’ll arrive at Lanai or, as it’s better known, Pineapple Island. Spend a few hours relaxing on its quiet beaches, or else visit the Garden of the Gods, Lanai City and Kaumalapau Harbor.
