On arrival in Phoenix airport, collect your comfortable hire car and drive to serene Scottsdale. You'll be staying at the stylish Hyatt Regency Scottsdale Resort & Spa at Gainey Ranch. We recommend you relax by one of the hotel's attractive pools or at the elegant spa and shake off any jetlag by taking an easy day.
You have the next couple of days at leisure to explore both Phoenix and Scottsdale in your own car at your own pace. We recommend a trip to Old Town Scottsdale, where the ‘old west’ meets the ‘new west’ and cowboys still stroll the streets. The Musical Instrument Museum in Phoenix houses concerts, classes and instruments from all around the world.
The famous red rocks of Sedona are the perfect prelude to the epic scale of the Grand Canyon and an essential element in any Grand Canyon itinerary. The town is a striking two-hour drive from Scottsdale amid canyons, desert and pine forests. Check into the Amara Resort & Spa then relax by the pool or enjoy a signature massage.
After breakfast, enjoy the short but scenic walk from your hotel to join your shared off-road adventure tour. You'll cruise through the red rocks of Sedona with a stop at a Native American cliff dwelling where ancient Arizonans lived and loved. Enjoy a picnic lunch here before returning to your hotel for an afternoon at leisure.
Driving to the Grand Canyon National Park through Arizona's signature desert canyons provides drama aplenty. Be sure to stop in historic Flagstaff on Route 66 along the way. On arrival, you'll visit the park's Visitor Centre and enjoy an immersive IMAX movie before your shared helicopter flightseeing tour. Finally, relax at the dramatic El Tovar Hotel, perched right on the canyon rim.
This morning, you'll meet your private guide for a hike along the canyon rim. Learn about the geology, flora, fauna and history of this wonder of the world as you hike less-visited trails and enjoy startling vistas. In the afternoon, you'll visit the vertiginous studio of Emery and Ellsworth Kolb, who started photographing the canyon in the early 20th century.
Get another view of canyon country today with a shared float trip on the Colorado River through Glen Canyon. Laze on board, and gaze at sheer walls that soar over 300 metres above the gentle waters. You'll stop for lunch in the wilderness. After your tour, drive to Utah's sculptural Lake Powell. Choose to explore the surroundings or simply recharge and process the majesty of what you've seen so far.
Hop into a Hummer SUV and let your private driver-guide transport you deep into the canyons surrounding Lake Powell. You'll hike into a sunset-hued slot canyon, 20 metres deep, and marvel at the beauty that millions of years of erosion can craft. In the afternoon, cruise west to Bryce Canyon National Park, and settle into the Stone Canyon Inn.
Today, enter Bryce Canyon National Park, where your private guide will meet you escort you to the finest and least-visited viewpoints. Explore the forest of pinnacles and eerie ‘hoodoo’ spires, and capture classic shots. You'll have the afternoon free to explore the otherworldly landscape further.
Leave Bryce and head to Zion National Park. Here you'll join your another one of our local private guide to discover uncrowded trails to some of the best rock formations. You'll spend the night at Zion Mountain Ranch, a western-style homestead with excellent equestrian facilities.
You'll have today at your leisure to explore the marvels of Zion National Park, perhaps second-only to the Grand Canyon for natural wonders in the American west. You might wish to saddle up and ride out from your ranch western style, enjoy a hike, or cruise these surreal landscapes in the comfort of your car.
Bring your southwest America adventure to an end with the classic coda to any Grand Canyon itinerary: a drive through the rugged desert scenery to Las Vegas. We recommend you stop to admire the towering horseshoe curve of the mighty Hoover Dam. On arrival, drop off your hire car and check in to the Mandarin Oriental: Las Vegas itself is easily navigated by taxi.
Make the most of the delights Sin City has to offer over the course of the next two days. The Mandarin Oriental is perfectly located for shopping, shows and restaurants, not to mention the compelling glitter and glitz of The Strip itself. We can arrange additions from bespoke helicopter flights to private drivers should you so desire.
One of our team will collect you from the Mandarin Oriental and accompany you to the airport, where you'll catch your return flight to the UK.
