Highlights

Dig in to Lima's culinary scene

There’s no arguing that Lima is a foodie destination beyond compare. Spend two days discovering the city’s fascinating pre-Columbian history and devouring its innovative cuisine. Go beyond the world-class restaurants and enjoy a cooking class in the stylish home of a Peruvian chef. Then explore the pisco bars that serve the country’s signature drink in mind-boggling variations.

Larco museum & pisco tasting

If you visit one museum in Lima, make it the Larco Museum. Boasting the world’s largest private collection of Pre-Columbian artefacts, it’s a must-visit for history lovers. Peruse well-curated galleries the contents of which span 3,000 years. View regalia, pottery and textiles from the Incas, Nazcas and other indigenous tribes. Then it’s time to discover Peru’s national drink. Pull up a stool at a watering hole and sip traditional pisco with locals. Then make your way to a contemporary bar where a mixologist will whizz up the perfect pisco sour.

At the chef’s table

Join one of Peru’s bustling morning mercados with your host for the day, Penelope Alzamora. She’ll help you select the fish and vegetables for your lunchtime feast you’re going to prepare. Back at her apartment in the bohemian Barranco district, take in sweeping ocean views with a pisco sour. Then don an apron and start chopping cod for lime-doused ceviche, or red onion for a tangy salad. Admire the fruits of your labour, then take your place at the table and eat to your heart’s content.

Time to depart

Following your feast, start your morning with a long lie in, before it’s on to your next adventure.
