Top Tip
The Canopy Walk opens up an avenue of sight you'll be hard pressed to find anywhere else, up among the trees and engulfed in the canopy you can begin to understand the habitats of animals you could only glimpse on the jungle's floor like the Amazonian Parrot.

Why we like it

  • The Inkaterra Reserva Amazonica Lodge is located in a private ecological reserve and research centre of 10,000 hectares
  • The ENA Spa combines classic treatments with exotic ingredients
  • Other facilities include casual conversation areas, a bar, a gift shop, an upstairs loft and balconies for bird watching and stargazing
  • Inkaterra Reserva Amazonica is a family-oriented lodge, and offers a wide range of facilities and activities for children
  • We recommend the Tambopata Suites for their private terraces, plunge pools, outdoor rain showers and personal airport escorts

    About Reserva Amazonica

Inspired by native Amazon design, Reserva Amazonica offers 30 thatched roof cabañas - all combining natural materials with contemporary amenities and built in the native Machiguenga and Ese'Eja style.

Four cabaña options are available - each individually decorated in an elegant, rustic style to create the most luxurious lodges in the Amazon. The Reserva is the place to go for an authentic, safe and comfortable stay in the biodiversity capital of Peru, where a single giant tree is home to more insect species than in the whole of the UK

    EXAMPLE ITINERARY
    Day 1 - Lima or Cusco/Puerto Maldonado
Morning flight to Puerto Maldonado and transfer to the river. A motorboat then takes you one hour down the Madre de Dios River to the Inkaterra Reserva Amazonica Lodge. Afternoon group guided walk along the Lodge's extensive system of jungle trails, offering an excellent introduction to the environment of the forest including trees like the kapok and the giant strangler fig and excellent opportunities to watch birds and observe the insect life. Evening nature presentation or watch the famous Amazon sunset.

    Day 2 - Reserva Amazonica
Early morning excursion to Rolin Island, home to particular monkey species such as the white-fronted capuchin and the squirrel monkey. After breakfast, visit the flooded wetlands, a mysterious Amazon ecosystem rich in Heliconias. Alternatively enjoy walking through the treetops along canopy suspension bridges or visit an Ese'Eja community. In the afternoon, take a boat ride up the Madre de Dios River to Lake Sandoval, the most beautiful lake in the Tambopata Reserve. Here, there is the chance to see parrots, turtles, piranhas and perhaps a giant otter. There is also the opportunity to enjoy a swim before returning to the Lodge in time for dinner. Evening caiman spotting excursion.

    Day 3 - Reserva Amazonica/Cusco or Lima
Boat transfer to the airport for your flight to Cusco or Lima.
