“Colours are very important to me. They make me happy and evoke dreams of faraway places. I grew up surrounded by vivid, flamboyant colours and stunning natural beauty. Madagascar, and its many vibrant influences, will always be my biggest inspiration.”

Discover a new silk road being fashioned by Cambodia-based designer Eric Raisina. Known for radiant colours and rich textures, his couture collections can be found on catwalks from Paris to Phnom Penh.

The Madagascan-born designer moved to Siem Reap in 1996. He soon became inspired by the local silk weavers and their ancient techniques and creates unique pieces for celebrities worldwide, including A-list actor Angelina Jolie.

After fashioning pieces for Yves Saint Laurent and collaborating with Christian Lacroix, Eric has vast experience of the fashion world. He creates all his designs by hand. He uses innovative fabrics such as silk fur and raffia lace which are sold in his boutiques in Paris, Phnom Penh and Siem Reap.

Meet Eric as part of A&K’s ethical arts and sustainable fashion experience and learn how he is bringing an authentic savoir-faire to the world of fashion. If you love textures, organza, silk frocks or raffia, this is the man to know. He is an original  an expert in weaving, pleating and crocheting. Tour his studio and see his vibrant work in full technicolour.

Sometimes one dress can take 10 people a month to complete – with this level of intricacy and involvement, the wait is always worth it.
