“Know yourself and have confidence in your abilities. When you recognise what you can achieve, you remove the obstacles. Strive to be better than other people’s expectations. I had always wanted to make wines not necessarily for the market, but that communicated a clear sense of place. Our customers respect that.”

Fine wine connoisseurs will savour this opportunity to share a glass of Chilean white with the country’s first female vineyard owner. María Luz Marín, who runs Viña Casa Marín, was nominated as one of the most influential women in the industry by The Drinks Business.

Located four kilometres from the Pacific Ocean, Viña Casa Marín is set in the village of Lo Abarca in San Antonio Valley. The cool climate here presented a variety of challenges for María, known as Marilú, when she pursued her dream. She has overcome these with hard work and determination. Today, the estate is recognised across the world for its exquisite icon and premium wines, both red and white. Casa Marín’s specialties are its fantastic pinot noir, syrah, sauvignon blanc, riesling, gewürztraminer and sauvignon gris, all cool-climate wines.

Raised in Santiago, Marilú used to spend the summers in her family home in Lo Abarca. This is when she first noticed the special conditions for agriculture. In the year 2000, after many years learning about viticulture, she planted her first vines. Her passion has resulted in the vineyard being one of the most celebrated outside Chile. If there is one person you want to share a glass of wine with, it’s Marilú.
