Small Group - Great Migration safari in style

UK - Nairobi

Upon arrival in beautiful Nairobi, we’ll meet you and take you to the historic Fairmont Norfolk Hotel. Here you can rest up before your safari adventure begins. Make sure your camera is fully charged because the game spotting starts tomorrow.

Amboseli National Park

You’ll be whisked to Amboseli National Park at the base of the snow-capped peaks of Mount Kilimanjaro, the highest freestanding mountain in the world. On your first game drive, look out for Amboseli’s famous herds of elephant but also keep your eyes peeled for lion, leopard, cheetah, giraffe, zebra and hyena. Back at camp, you can trade stories with your fellow travellers over a delicious welcome dinner at the stylish Tawi Lodge.

Amboseli National Park

A full day on safari awaits you on the African savannah.

Tarangire National Park

An early start brings you to Tarangire National Park in Tanzania. Here the Sanctuary Swala is your lavish camp beneath the acacia trees, with panoramic views of the Gurusi flood plain. Fed and nurtured by the Tarangire River, the park hosts lion, leopard, elephant, buffalo, giraffe, zebra and numerous species of antelope. Its dusty, red landscape is also home to a large bird population, and smaller game lives in its groundwater forest.

Tarangire National Park

A morning game drive awaits you, against the spectacular rust-hued Great Rift Valley. Afterwards, experience a cooking demonstration with delicacies such as ugali, makande and kahumari. As dusk falls on your afternoon drive, you may spot nocturnal species such as the stately leopard. With spotlights illuminating the path ahead, you’ll quickly adjust to your night vision.

Ngorongoro Crater

Travelling over the Rift Valley, you can pause to experience Mto wa Mbuo’s lively market. You’ll continue to the forested slopes of the Ngorongoro Conservation area on the edge of the Ngorongoro Crater. Here you’ll stay at a 1920s coffee farm that has been converted into a charming lodge. You’ll find it a tranquil setting for afternoon tea and a turn about the expansive grounds.

Ngorongoro Crater

Enjoy a full-day game viewing in the Ngorongoro Crater. This 609m volcanic caldera is a natural amphitheatre, hosting an incredible concentration of wildlife. It’s also a designated UNESCO World Heritage Site. You may spot the endangered black rhino here and, at the end of the day, we’ll take you to meet a Maasai elder, to discover all about the culture and traditions of his nomadic tribe.

Serengeti National Park

As you set off for the Serengeti National Park, stopping at the Olduvai Gorge, you will travel to the place where the earliest hominid fossils were found in 1959. The vast Serengeti savannah is perfect for witnessing the Great Migration. As the seasons change thousands of wildebeest and zebra search for grass and water between here and the Masai Mara. And predators, of course, follow in their wake.

Masai Mara Game Reserve

You’ll fly to the Masai Mara and settle into your riverside camp on the mighty Mara River. An afternoon game drive will follow the basking crocodile, wallowing hippo and mischievous monkey. The Mara is also famous for its large prides of lion and an incredible 500 species of birds, including the tiny malachite kingfisher. After your excursion, join fellow travellers for cocktails and dinner. Please note that for January to June departures accommodation will be in Mara Explorer.

Masai Mara Game Reserve

Enjoy two full days exploring the open savannah and tree-fringed rivers of the Masai Mara. Your patience is rewarded with amazing sights as the Great Migration unfolds before your eyes. If you’re lucky, you may see a spectacular (if traumatic) river crossing as streams of wildebeest crash through the river to reach fresh grass, while crocodiles lie in wait. Visit a primary school supported by AKP and see how the e-Reader programme is improving literacy rates.

Nairobi - UK

After a flight back to Nairobi you’ll spend the afternoon relaxing in the comfortable day room of the Fairmont Norfolk. In the evening, we’ll take you to the airport for a peaceful night flight back to the UK.
