Epic honeymoon

If you have plenty of time to play with, a honeymoon to more than one country can provide interesting contrasts and insights often missed on shorter journeys. A few weeks in Latin America will allow you to kick back on the beaches of Brazil, tango in Buenos Aires, trek to Iguazu Falls, ride horses in Patagonia and enjoy star-gazing in Chile. For lively cities, awesome landscapes, gorgeous hotels and passionate people, Latin America is just the ticket.

Where better than a Brazilian beach to chill out after the wedding frenzy? Ponta dos Ganchos is one of our favourite beach hotels. Located on a privately-owned peninsula, it has a selection of very private and luxurious cabañas featuring fantastic ocean views. After a few days relaxing away the wedding stress, a short flight will take you to Iguazu falls. One of the world’s natural wonders, Iguazu features 275 individual waterfalls spanning nearly three kilometres in length. The sheer scale of it must be seen to be believed, and the thundering water can be heard for miles.

South across the border from Iguazu lies Argentina’s glamorous capital, beckoning you with its European splendour and Latin passion. Celebrated for sensuous tango, lip-smacking food and world-class museums, Buenos Aires is a city that doesn’t do things by halves. If you get the chance, it’s worth joining fired-up locals for a football match at the famous La Boca stadium. You and your partner could also put on your dancing shoes for a lesson in Argentinian tango.

Further south, the rugged plains of Patagonia offer a stark contrast, and is home to inviting lodges ideal for recuperation after the excitement of the big city. Designed in harmony with the surrounding area, Eolo is an exceptional choice of accommodation. From this base, explore the grasslands, glaciers, ice floes and mountains. Argentina’s gauchos know the Patagonian plains like the back of their hands; riding with them across the Pampas with the wind in your hair is exhilarating.

Then journey from ice to fire with a visit to Chile’s Atacama Desert, the driest place on Earth. Here, volcanoes breathe fire, pink flamingos dot shimmering salt pans and the sunsets are world-class. There’s lots on offer in this landscape, from cycling and horse riding to swimming in oases and stargazing with experts. Whilst here, stay at the Awasi Atacama, where flagstone paths meander through landscaped gardens.
