UK - Buenos Aires

Your Antarctica itinerary begins with an overnight flight to beautiful Buenos Aires. Argentina’s chic capital city is renowned for its distinctive architectural styles and effervescent cultural scene.

Buenos Aires

Your guide will meet you at the airport and arrange a smooth transfer to the luxurious Park Hyatt Palacio Duhau. Once you’ve checked in and got settled, you can begin exploring the Paris of South America.

Buenos Aires

Meet your fellow travellers for a guided tour of Buenos Aires, beginning in the Plaza de Mayo with its colonial architecture and magnificent Metropolitan Cathedral. Pausing for coffee at legendary Cafe Tortoni, you’ll explore the elegant gardens of Palermo and cobbled streets of San Telmo, the city’s oldest barrio. Later, a cocktail reception heralds the start of your Antarctic adventures.

Ushaia - Gateway to Antarctica

You’ll fly to Tierra del Fuego and Ushuaia, the world’s southernmost town. Enjoy a guided trek around the lush Cerro Alarken Nature Reserve. Later on you’ll board the stylish and comfortable expedition vessel Le Lyrial, relaxing in your suite or the lounge as the ship cruises down the Beagle Channel and out to sea.

Drake Passage

The Drake Passage, once an important trade route, is known for its stormy waters and icy conditions which Le Lyrial navigates with ease while you enjoy a series of enriching lectures. Leading experts discuss the birdlife, geology and history of the area as well as providing useful advice on photography. In the afternoons, look out for whales and seabirds from the deck accompanied by our naturalist guides.

Antarctica

Excitement builds as the Antarctic Peninsula and its offshore islands come into view. Daily small-group excursions by swift and sturdy Zodiac boat take you to explore penguin colonies and dramatic terrain. In the afternoons, you can relax deckside, scanning the horizon for humpback whale and orca. Other highlights include a tour of a working scientific research station, ancient whaling stations and colossal icebergs dotted with seals. The exquisite Antarctic twilight allows for wonderfully moody photographs.

Drake Passage

Time to pause and reflect on your experiences of the White Continent as the ship returns through the Drake Passage to Ushuaia. Though your Antarctic cruise is sadly coming to an end, there is still time to catch glimpses of various species of whale and seabirds from the deck, such as the albatross which can fly for hours at a time in search of food using its powerful wings.

Ushuaia - Buenos Aires

You’ll disembark from Le Lyrial early in the morning, transferring to the airport to connect with a flight back to Buenos Aires. This evening, recount your adventures with your fellow passengers at a traditional evening dinner and tango show, held at the prestigious Esquina Carlos Gardel.

Buenos Aires - London

Antarctica leaves a strong impression on visitors: you’ll be taking plenty of memories home with you on your overnight flight back to London.
