Highlights of Iceland – Self-drive tour

Take to the road in your 4x4 and follow this Iceland self-drive itinerary to discover the beauty and extreme contrasts of this remarkable country. From powerful geysers, to magnificent waterfalls and volcanic craters; you’ll see it all. The Golden Circle tour will take you to Iceland’s Big Three including the Thingvellir National Park, site of Iceland's historic parliament and a geological phenomenon. Walk on the black sand beach of Reynisfjara and behind the magnificent Seljarlandsfoss waterfall; an experience which is out of this world. Soak in the healing thermal waters of the Blue Lagoon before returning home, refreshed and rejuvenated.

UK - Reykjavik

You’ll touch down at Keflavik airport which is small, colourful, friendly and straightforward; much like the country itself. The Lego-like installations dotted around like building blocks give it the feel of a giant playground. A driver will be waiting to welcome you the moment you step into the arrivals hall, and will take you straight to your hotel.

Golden Circle

A taxi will be arranged to take you to the car rental office to collect your vehicle (based on a Toyota Landcruiser or similar and includes 4G & GPS). Now your adventure will begin. The Golden Circle showcases the best of the country's natural beauty. See the waterfalls and volcanic craters of Thingvellir National Park, and its geysers including The Great Geyser, Iceland’s most famous, and Stokkur, the most energetic. You’ll see the powerful Gullfoss waterfall and the waters that fill the crater of Kerid volcano in Grimsnes.

South Shore

Today, you’ll head out to Iceland's volcanic south shore, an area characterised by magnificent waterfalls and black sand beaches, stretching as far the eye can see. Seljarlandsfoss waterfall flows with the meltwater of the famous Eyjafjallajokull glacier, dropping a dramatic 60 feet over the cliffs. A footpath behind the waterfall affords an other-worldly experience, if you’re not afraid to get a little damp!

Reykjanes Peninsula with Blue lagoon

Today, you’ll travel to the ancient lava fields of the Reykjanesskagi peninsula, with its hot springs and sulphur springs.  The Blue Lagoon is undoubtedly the highlight of the trip, whose waters are rich in minerals that are known to have healing powers. Take a dip in the thermal waters and enjoy a natural mud spa treatment before you head home, feeling fantastic.

Refreshed and rejuvenated, you’ll enjoy one last breakfast at the hotel before driving back to the airport to drop off your Land Cruiser and take your flight home.
