An oasis of calm in the heart of the Egyptian desert
The Siwa Oasis is one of the most intriguing regions of Egypt. Its indigenous cultural heritage and spectacular natural environment make it distinct. A fertile basin sitting about 25m below sea level, it's fed by some 230 natural freshwater springs from the Nubian aquifer. On our bespoke Siwa tours, you'll discover its exceptional geological features and a diversity of flora and fauna in this vast area.
Siwa was famed as the location of the Oracle of Amon, whom Alexander the Great consulted before continuing his Persian conquest. Today, the oasis exists much as it always has. Alongside majestic rock formations, lush groves and expanses of salt lakes, you’ll find ancient ruins and unique cultural traditions that have endured for thousands of years.
The spectacular remains of 13th-century mud-brick fortress, known as the Shali Ghadi, dominates Central Siwa. Though gradually eroding, the crumbling Shali remains a prominent feature, towering five stories above the modern town and lit dramatically at night. Our Siwa tours will give you an unrivalled insight into this fascinating area and its Berber people who are sure to give you a warm and friendly welcome.
