Set in the small town of Kasane, Dipetsana Bike Shop is owned and run as a cooperative by five local women. On your visit, you’ll learn about everyday life here while coming to understand the importance of reliable and sustainable transport in this remote part of Botswana. Afterwards, a guide joins you for a cycling tour of the town.
Seeing the shop at work, you’d think these highly trained women had been working in this cheery, bustling environment for decades. Several years ago, these inspiring entrepreneurs partnered with AKP, who were able to arrange for several shipping containers of second-hand bikes to be sent to them. A project with very little waste, even the containers have come to good use, forming the shop’s building. This has provided a means to support their families and broaden the community's mobility.
After your tour of the shop, your journey through the village will showcase all the hubs of local life. Swing by the market and visit the local shops.
