Highlights

Adventure in the Yucatan

Spend two nights in Mexico’s dreamy Yucatan Peninsula. Marvel at Mayan ruins such as glorious Chichén Itzá and the ravishing city of Uxmal. Lap up gorgeous colonial architecture in Merida, the Yucatan’s gem of a capital. Enjoy an adventure too: swimming in isolated cenotes (underground reservoirs that occur in the limestone of Yucatan) and exploring the Loltun caverns, packed with paintings and fossils.

Cities & cenotes

Set off on an early morning tour of Chichén Itzá, expert guide in tow. If you’re a fan of sophisticated historical ruins, look no further. This thousand-year-old site was once one of the greatest Mayan cities of the entire peninsula. When the midday heat descends, head to nearby cenote Ik-Kil to take a cooling freshwater dip. Continue on to your hotel in colonial Merida, the Yucatan’s gorgeous capital city and spend the rest of the day at your leisure.

Cycle to Homún

This morning, fuel up on breakfast and then meet your guide in the hotel lobby. Journey to Anaceh village, your starting point for a two-hour bike ride through forestland to the colonial village of Homún. You may just be seduced by Homún’s rustic beauty and its extraordinary secluded cenotes and their shimmering emerald and turquoise colours. Lunch at a local restaurant, where you’ll sample traditional Yucatan cuisine before heading back to Merida where you can spend the rest of the day relaxing or sightseeing.

Loltun & Uxmal

Explore the caverns at Loltun, a network of underground caves that contain evidence of Mayan civilisation dating as far back as 300BCE. With an expert guide leading the way, you’ll discover treasures such as mammoth fossils, giant stalagmites and rock paintings of human faces. Afterwards, your guide will drive you to the city of Uxmal, the highlight of which is the well-preserved Governor’s Palace. Its ornate friezes and skilfully reeded walls are some of the finest examples of Mayan masonry.
